This poster depicts the stained-glass window of the Sainte-Mère-Église Church in Normandy, France — one of the most symbolic sites of the D-Day landings during World War II. Sainte-Mère-Église was the first town liberated by Allied forces on D-Day, June 6, 1944. It became iconic after American paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division landed around the town in the early hours of the invasion.
After the war, the townspeople of Sainte-Mère-Église commissioned stained-glass artist Paul Renaud to create this memorial window as a tribute to the paratroopers who risked and lost their lives in the liberation of France.
